Yes, you can make your own laundry soap for next to nothing... Here is how:
2 Bar Ivory Soap/ Grated
1 Box Washing Soda (Arm & Hammer)
1/2 Box Borax Powder (20 Mule Team)
1 Bar Fels Naptha Grated
Grate your 2 bars of Ivory Soap really fine. Add your 1 Box Washing Soda, and your 1/2 Box Borax Powder, grate your Fels Naptha bar and add this in as well. Stir all up...
You will need an air tight container or larger zip lock bag. I picked up my little swan in a package of 6 at the dollar store for a buck.
Yes, you can use this laundry soap with HE washing machines. I have a set and use this laundry soap all the time. This is not a suds or bubble laundry soap, so don't be hanging around your washing machine wondering why you see no bubbles.. it's a clean soap.
The grated Ivory Soap bar, gives this laundry soap a clean smell, this soap washes great and cleans dirt, and smells out of clothes really well. It only takes about a 1/4 of a cup to do a normal size load of laundry which is what the swan will hold. Huge big savings.. to do a normal size load, it cost around 3 cents or less and that compared to buying brand name washing powder, plus stain remover, and all the other items needed to clean clothes will cut your laundry expenses down in a huge major way.
You will not need fabric softener with this laundry soap, the Ivory soap, believe it or not makes the clothes softer and whiter and does remove stains really well. I highly recommend that you mix up your laundry soap in a well ventilated room.. Like outside or your garage with the door open.. I found mixing the washing powder and the Borax powder left a dust in the air..
Washing Soda, it's purpose is to help remove dirt and orders. It is a sodium carbonate. You will want to look for the brand (Arm & Hammer Washing Soda)
Borax is a sodium borate, it's a white powder. It's purpose is a laundry whitener and deodorizer. The brand to look for is 20 Mule Team. The Fels Naptha is an old fashion type of soap usually found in the laundry isle. Ivory soap just adds softness.
Craft up a cute container to store you laundry soap in.. there ya have it.. Home made laundry soap that will shave money off your grocery store bill. :)
Have a super wonderful weekend and I will see you back here on Monday May 23, 2011 for more crafts & fun.
